Objectives

Motivation and goal: In order to strengthen cross-border cooperation within the Greater Region, we wanted to give young people the opportunity to experience Europe in its heart and to discuss whether and how we should shape coexistence across national borders. The aim of the project "Media on tour - go to the limits!" was the realization of a multinational youth encounter that lures the participants out of their virtual comfort zone and motivates them to explore the landscape and cultural heritage of the Eifel region using mobile media technology and bicycles. Getting to know the Ardennes region and discussing current European topics and recording the results of the discussion in the media. In the course of the project, the participants should cycle along the entire German-Luxembourg border in order to consciously experience "borderless Schengen Europe" and visit the memorials at the border triangle in Ouren-Lieler and in Schengen at the beginning and end of the project. Participants and activities: Around 50 young people from the neighboring countries of the greater region (Luxembourg, Germany, France) and other EU countries (Finland, Spain, Romania) were to be brought together and current topics in European politics ("What is the Schengen area?", " How are common external borders related to a common right of asylum?"). In terms of content, the encounter should go beyond the purely sporting dimension of a joint "bicycle tour". Rather, the intercultural getting to know each other, the mutual exchange about the different life situations of the young people beyond the borders and the development of mutual respect and understanding for each other should be the focus. This was made possible by working together in mixed, medial small groups. Methodology for the implementation of the project / expected results / benefits: The pedagogical implementation of the topics mentioned took place on a non-formal level. By getting to know and using mobile media, the participants can experience the reality of open borders, recognize and document similarities and differences using the example of the entire German-Luxembourg border. They should be involved in a participatory way and develop their own project ideas in small groups. These should be designed with pedagogical support and realized over the course of the week so that by the end of the project, finished media products (short films, interviews, slide shows, story maps, blogs) are available.
