If we talked about the current situation in European Union, the level of cultural traditions was getting lower and lower. This on the long term had a very strong effect on the life of EU citizens, making them lose their feeling of identity. We believed that this situation needs to be discussed and the effects of this to be presented in a more interesting way in order that people pay attention and put in practice what they learn. In our project, we wanted to promote the traditions by using a more interesting method and we will welcome young people looking for uniqueness, interested in promoting culture and traditions through non-formal education. In our work, together with our partners, we wanted to connect the youngsters with the traditions in order to help them be more inventive and innovative in terms of keeping the traditions alive. It is very important for the youngsters to be aware of the importance of traditions and cultural heritage. We work with these themes through the creative promotion of culture and traditions. 28 participants from 5 different countries (Latvia, Italy, Spain, Romania and Netherlands) came together in Saulkrasti, Latvia to promote Europe through street art, music and street performances. Youth Exchange "Cultures in Action" had a base in Saulkrasti and will drive in directions towards public places in Saulkrasti to perform for locals and also to spread information about different programs and projects that European Union is implementing in Latvia and in other promoters' countries. Overall the participants had a couple of performances colored with different games, quizzes, competitions, etc. For this we had set the following objectives: - To make sure that the actual exchange of ideas, experiences and realities took place among participants of the exchange - To create a space where young people from different countries bring color to the local daily routine - To support the development of their common European identity. - To help youth to understand and embrace the idea of common Europe - To have a strong local impact by involving young people from the local neighborhood - To encourage their active participation in decision making and shaping processes - To make the efforts of the European Commission visible - To inspire local youth to be engaged in similar youth activities and to learn about the Erasmus+ programme. We built a bridge between the youngsters from Latvia and the youngsters from Europe, as not all youngsters have permanent contact with interculturality. With the help of international groups of youngsters, we shared the importance of keeping the traditions and the cultural heritage which can be transferred to their own home situation regarding the importance of culture and traditions. The project met the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme as it fostered mutual and cultural understanding between young people in different countries, promoted European cooperation in the field of youth and contributes to developing the quality of supported systems for youth activities and the capabilities of civil society. Youth Exchange "Cultures in Action" allowed focusing on the emergency of providing necessary intercultural and performing competences to young people from rural and urban areas who can further start their own national performances and promote them using state of the art tools. Project guaranteed active participation of youth in all its phases. According to the "Youth Educational Mobility" action, all the project activities were based on the active participation of youth. Participants conducted workshops on their own with leaders’ support in order to enhance personal development and expand horizons.
