THE HATE ANTIDOTE: Countering Radicalisation and Hate Speech" was a two-stage training course tackling comprehensively the above mentioned topic, setting the stage for collaborative efforts of combating hate thoughts and speech that results in radicalisation and extremism. The project's first main goal was: prevent and fight extremism and radicalisation through concrete measures within the local community. The objectives were: (1) to strengthen the role of youth organisations in countering violent extremism; (2) promote the role of intercultural dialogue and gender mainstreaming in countering extremism and radicalisation. Hence, the project seeks to bring about the necessity of adapting training contents, materials, and tools to the target groups realities, to better assist youth workers’ progress both in understanding and implementing participatory training in non-formal educational settings. Further, the project seeks to develop initiatives that appeal violence and extremism, and directly or indirectly challenge extremist narratives or propaganda and cultural, social, religious, political or ideological differences that lead to extremist violence; reaching out to youth with fewer opportunities: at risk youth, refugees, asylum seekers or migrants who are victims and actors. Thereby, we promoted intercultural dialogue, media literacy, critical thinking and a sense of initiative among them through counter- narratives campaigns. Thus, the project recognised the crucial role non-formal education, integrated into the European policies in the fields of youth plays in building peaceful communities, and addressing challenges of violent extremism through values and skills in the spirit of tolerance and mutual appreciation among individuals, beliefs, and cultures.
