Following a training course hosted by Empowering Youth in Care on attachment and further needs-analysis carried out by our organisation and by the partner organisations of this project, it was established that more knowledge was needed on the link between insecure attachments and risky sexual relationships. On a daily basis, youth workers face themselves with situations for which they are not adequately prepared and thus through this project we have provided added competencies on the importance of forming strong emotional bonds and healthy ways of connecting with significant others leading to healthy sexual relationships. This project delivered added knowledge and skills to the youth workers to help them address marginalized youths whose reality maybe contextualized in developing insecure attachment styles, which later express themselves into different forms of sexual expressions, which may also lead them to abusive sexual relationships and societal exclusion. The objectives of this training was thus to support the different professionals who work with these youth by helping them to; - Learn about different attachment styles, - Learn to identify the different attachment styles, as well as giving them the appropriate relational skills to manage them adequately - Support professionals and workers to learn about sex and sexuality, familiarizing them with their social constructions of sexual terminology and support them through use of appropriate language, which may also manifest itself through different attachment styles. These objectives equipped the participants to provide the right respect and dignity to marginalized youths coming from diverse abusive contexts and different cultural contexts that may not privilege their inclusion in society later on in their life. Through this project, the participants were provided with added tools to reach youths at risk of being marginalized, by equipping them with the right skills and understanding, to instill the appropriate values to re-integrate them in society. Learning from different countries also enhanced learning through sharing of experiences, similarities and differences.
