Objectives

This youth exchange has been inspired but he participants of the Share your story! Youth exchange we hosted at cat farm in June 2018. The participants often asked questions about the garden at cat farm, how we grow our food and how we get the food from locals that we cook for meals. We realised that there are many things that are unknown to youth, that their connection to nature is missing, that they are curious about how food is produces and what journey it takes for it to et to the table. So, we decided to come together and brainstorm opportunities to organise the youth exchange that will raise awareness about food we eat, as well as share practice we have at Catfarm (we have a big vegetable garden and we grow our own food) to inspire future generations to eat more healthy and lead more healthy lifestyle. With this youth exchange we want not only to share food cultures of different countries, but also to open dialogue about “What does it mean to eat healthy? How the food we eat is produced? What is healthy for us?”. We are going to debate and provoke critical thought so that the participants form their own opinion around the topic. We are going to talk about food production through gardening, processing, trade, food waste, involving different stakeholders so that to gain different perspectives on healthy food. We are also going to delve on topics of Climate change and how it is affected by the way we eat. In addition, with this youth exchange we will test "Zero CO2" model for travels that we are developing to introduce to the Erasmus+ world to foster sustainable travel and mindful usage of various kinds of transport. We will introduce our white paper to the National agency and later wider circle of youth organisations all around Europe. This youth exchange will be all about learning by doing. We are going to visit both places where food is produced not in sustainable way, as well as aquaponic, urban, permaculture and other farmers who follow the environment-friendly approach. In addition, the participants will try to grow their own food, creating a beautiful and lush garden together. This garden will be available at Catfarm for future participants of youth exchanges and will serve as an inspiration for al visitors of Catfarm to live a more healthy and a more sustainable lifestyle. The youth exchange is going to achieve the following specific objectives: - Raise awareness about gardening, healthy food, foster critical reflection around the topic of the exchange; - Share food cultures, exchange international perspectives about the topic, develop an intercultural competence, understanding of different cultures and appreciation of diversity; - Improve social and civic competence of participating youth; - Foster communication of youth and environmental stakeholders; - Develop the sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and encourage young people to become more active in their communities as a part of follow-up, as well as beyond; - Strengthen cooperation and inspire future projects between the partner organisation and youth from partner organisations;
