With the international Youth Exchange Project “ The Ancients” we want to break down myths and stereotypes connected with one of the most important challenge of nowadays Europe and world, migration on local and global level. With this youth exchange project we will bring together youth from different European countries and by using non-formal methodology & gamification, visits and thematic workshops, create comfortable space where they can share their experiences and daily life between each other. By combining three different but closely connected subjects together, it is hoped to help the participants to find inspiration to stay and find creative solutions for developing their home places and give them the chance to think share the final results of their work with the other participants. We truly believe that there is much hidden in those creative young minds whose opinion is still rather restrained in the public opinion as a whole. This project would be a way to boost youngsters out-of-the- box thinking and stepping in to an inter-cultural dialogue with people from other nationalities. More concretely, the objectives of this Youth Exchange are: - to raise the awareness about migration - to raise the awareness of the importance of youth participation in the decision-making process - to show youngsters opportunities that can be created by them for developing their areas - to challenge and practice creative thinking - to use creativity to express their opinions and thoughts - to foster peer-dialog about matters concerning youth participation in developing processes on local level - to share knowledge, experiences, strategies, tools and ideas - to encourage critical and analytical skills - to acquire and transfer new methods of non-formal education - to raise cultural awareness, foster inter-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding One of our main goals is to improve the level of key competences to encourage the participants to become more active citizens of their home country and the EU, but also to contribute to a cohesive society. This all will be achieved with the help of peer-learning in an international dimension while promoting the cooperation between various countries within the of Erasmus+ program. We are also hoping to explore new innovative ideas derived from peer-learning. Besides, due to the international dimension, the project will be held in English and the participants will have the chance to improve their level of the English language. In addition, a lot of attention will be paid on the equity and the inclusion of all our participants throughout the full program. In order to assure the highest quality possible, it is important for us to every participant feel like being included in the whole process. Therefore, ‘The Ancients’ will be an 9-day Youth Exchange in which 32 youngsters between the age of 15 & 30 years old that will explore with each other how cultural identities are formed, which elements contribute in forming a culture, what issues & dilemma’s people face when these cultures clash and how can we create between different cultures. The youngster will be divided in 7 mixed groups. Each group will be assigned a culture from the distant past and they will be presenting gods & goddesses from these ancient’s civilizations. These cultures will be: The Egyptians, The Mesopotamians/Sumerians, The Mayans, The Norse, The Chinese, the Indus Valley/Rama & ancient Celtics civilizations). Last year we did a similar YE based on gamification and with similar topic. We got immense positive feedback from the participants but there were also some points of improvements which we will implement in the YE next year. These points were: • Have more group sessions in the program in which we talk with the whole group about the topic & what insights we are gaining during the project about migration & Intercultural learning • The program is a healthy mix of gamification part & the other group activities but would be nice to also have activities in which we can work & reflect individually • For dissemination would be better to have a graphic booklet with all the insights, materials and other things that have been created during the mobility like for example a comic book • Create more challenges and turning points in the program so it gets even more look and feel of a game • Involve more the local community where the gamification is taking place • Choose a location that suits more the theme of the exchange We have taken in account all these points and made some changes in the program accordingly. Our youngsters and us have been thinking hard where this YE shall take place and as one of the points was that the mobility should be held which suits the theme more so in that we ended up choosing Athens in Greece. Another reason is that we have very reliable partner there who can take care of all the logistical matters.
