Objectives

During the exchange in Bulgaria where most of us met, we were discussing our passions, but also the problems that we are seeing in our communities and the changes that we would like to make. We really liked workshops about the anti-bias approach, even though most of us didn't know much about this topic before coming to the exchange. On the last day, we had the task to make a group according to our interest and work on writing an Erasmus+ exchange on which we would love to participate or organize it. It was an easy decision for us to team up and we decided to focus on the topics of anti-discrimination and media and digital literacy. Since we all love and do art in one or the other form (photography, dance, theater), we decided to include art in our project. We believe that art can be a powerful tool for youth to become active and make the change in their community, or, in our case, to learn about the anti-bias approach and intercultural understanding and tolerance. We decided to organize the exchange in Sint Maarten and CECF supported us from the beginning of working on this application. The main challenge/burning issue that we wanted to address with this project is: Youth in Europe and the Caribbean are not aware of the discrimination actions they take, or they don't realize that some of their actions are actually discrimination based on prejudice and stereotypes. The main aim of the project was: Raising awareness about the anti-bias approach and the role of the youth in it. The goals of our project were: 1. To show how art can be used for youth activism and discuss important topics with a focus on the anti-bias approach. 2. To give tools to youth from 5 different countries, empowering them to make the change in their local community. 3. To share with 25 young people and group leaders how we can become more media and digital literate and to improve intercultural understanding and tolerance by doing this. 4. To learn and understand the difference between stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination and the connection between them 5. To create a safe space where youth can explore their creativity and try different forms of art and share their culture and values with others.
