Objectives

Based on the experience of the consortium, which is active in the youth work field for more than 15 years, it was clear that the Theatre of the Oppressed Methodology, even though it is a very efficient methodology for handling diverse social problems, was not well-known and applied across European youth work field. This project was created as a response to the needs of various youth organizations that needed practical competencies in new methods to improve the situation of their direct target groups (the ones directly affected by various social problems, and not only them). The Theatre of the Oppressed Methodology was developed by Brazilian Augusto Boal in the context of discrimination and human rights violations in Brazilian society in the 70s. The Forum, Image, Invisible, and Newspaper Theatre methods are highly adaptable to the needs of different communities, with a large capacity to address all kinds of social issues: human rights violations, power abuse, and oppression in different ways, lack of activism, discrimination, violent radicalization, exclusion, poverty, marginalization, xenophobia, etc. Through a creative approach, it provides a space for people to reflect, find solutions to these topics, and transfer the solutions to their lives. Through this project, the consortium aimed to address their members' need for capacity building and improve the quality of the youth work they delivered, as well as better handle various social problems. The main goal of this project was to increase the capacity of the youth work sector to promote the participation and involvement of young people in social processes and change. The training program was designed for youth workers, active members of youth organizations who needed to develop their competencies in working with Theatre of the Oppressed methods to have a better and long-lasting impact in their communities. We aimed to contribute to a more increased capacity of the youth work field to bring about large-scale social change and, by doing so, support the objectives of Erasmus+ and the specific objectives of KA1 Mobility of Youth Workers. The more specific objectives of the project were as follows: - To introduce innovative methodologies in the youth work field. - To enhance the capacity of partners to operate at the European level and in international mobility projects. - To stimulate the exchange of best practices in the youth work field by using theatre for social change. - To improve the quality of the projects of youth organizations. - To develop and improve skills in non-formal education in general, and particularly in Theatre of the Oppressed methods, for European youth workers. - To stimulate the development of a network of Theatre of the Oppressed. - To improve project management, communication, team leading, and motivation skills for youth workers. - To foster proactive attitudes and a sense of initiative among the members of the partners and their beneficiaries. - To increase the level of active participation among the direct and indirect beneficiaries. - To contribute to the development of employable skills among the direct and indirect beneficiaries.
