DARE TO CREATE was the most recent project promoted by SOPRO – Solidarity and Promotion within the scope of the Erasmus+ Youth in Action Program, which involved organizations from different countries - Italy, Spain, Croatia, Norway, Greece, Romania and Portugal - between January 2020 to June 2022. The project was aimed for young people with fewer opportunities, between 18 and 30 years old and took place in Barcelos (Portugal) from June 22 to 29, 2022, involving 38 young participants and 8 leaders. With the DARE TO CREATE project, we intended to promote reflection and discussion among the different participants on gender equality issues. It was our intention to train and provide participants with useful tools for the adoption of more egalitarian attitudes and practices. As a means to achieve the intended goals, this project used different forms of artistic expression as a vehicle for raising awareness. We knew that artistic expression has great potential in terms of transmitting information, messages, in a less exhaustive way to the participants of the exchange. In this way, we use music, dance, pottery and painting to convey messages of awareness and promotion of Gender Equality, Citizenship and Non-Discrimination. With this alliance we were able to promote non-formal education with young people as a form of Education for Human Rights; Discuss and reflect the equal participation of young women and men in different life domains (cultural, political and socio-economic); to work creatively on the importance of being able to interact as equals, demystifying gender prejudices/stereotypes, with appreciation of different gender identities, in a permanent intercultural dialogue. With the different activities promoted during the exchange, we were also able to encourage the participation of young people in democratic life in Europe; we strengthen young people's skills in terms of citizenship and a sense of belonging to society and the European Union; we promote a sense of belonging to the European project and build bridges between the European Union and young people to regain confidence and increase participation; empower young people to have equitable access to youth organizations and European youth programs, building a society based on European values and identity and we also make it possible to improve participants' foreign language skills.
