The project used and teached tools from the artistic/theatrical sphere that are helpful to foment respect and tolerance, to solve conflicts, to diagnose and analyse eventual problems, to debate and to try to find solutions, always with a pleasant and playful environment. The playing themes were some of the most common youth problems like Introversion and Loneliness, Getting radicalized/marginalized, Bullying, Environmental concerns/unhealthy lifestyle, Sexism / Gender Discrimination, Homophobia, Racism and Xenophobia. “Theatre Can Help” was a combination of different creative and interactive methods. The learning of new skills, the acquisition of knowledge and the exchange and challenge of each other’s attitude and experience were very important for our project. With this project that included several Theatrical Methods and provided the Youth Workers and young people with valuable tools to explore and develop in their daily life and daily work with young people. With several explorations, exercises and games belonging to Movement & Body Expression, Dramatical, Dance, Mime & Clown, Puppets & Objects Theatre and Oppressed / Forum Theatre techniques, we wanted to demonstrate, share and develop alternative solutions. Youth of today is so lucky about so many amazing opportunities but also unlucky with so many problems which they have to cope with. Many youth organisations have been organizing varieties of international youth exchange projects about different issues and trying to contribute it. As experienced partner organisations we tried to analyse the situation deeply and we decided to organize this project with a special focus on serious problems of young people. “Theatre Can Help” brought together a total of 59 young people and youth workers from 5 countries to explore their personality and share their common problems through theatre and acting. Theatre is a tool, which can awake creativity of young people, that can be used to talk about serious topics. According to our experiences with young people; some of them are shy, introverted, cannot express themselves easily, getting asocial (as opposed to intense communication on electronic devices) and because of these reasons they do not communicate with each other well. We used several diferent theatrical techniques for this subjects and it provided tools for young people and youth workers to explore collective struggles, analyse their history and present circumstances, and then experiment with inventing a new future together through theatre. We expect that these activities have created a new attitude and artistic skills to young people becoming active members of their societies promoting cultural events. In this way young people could/can reflect and understand their role in society and use different NFE methodologies to drive their own ideas, cultural and social needs among community. The impact that this project seeked to create both in the participants and in the local community was really significant because now more than ever we need to preserve our values and traditions and attract/involve young people to produce their own cultural and social needs, to know more about EU opportunities and to apply alternative methods (NFE activities, dances, music, visits, simulations, exhibitions, campaigning and outdoor activities) that allows a greater interaction within the group of participants and the community – sense of belonging. This approach is inclusive as it encourages other youngsters to be more participative and aware, thus transforming their way of thinking and perceiving reality, passing it to the community. We have planned our project not only for young people and youth workers but also by young people and youth workers, as using non-formal educational methods and especially the role-playing/theatre methods to achieve the following specific objectives: - To bring together young people and youth workers from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds; - To create space for dialogue; - To foster their feeling of sharing common values; - To raise their sense of belonging to Europe; - To understand how role-playing/theatre can effect in a positive way on young people/children and our societies; - To develop critical thinking regarding the problems young people face, - To be aware of importance of cultural diversity in local, regional and international level.
