Studies show how much digital media and technology influence and shape every aspect of young people’s lives but how much these become the dominant mediator of their lives. It is a phenomenon that is present throughout Europe or the world. Media education is a fundamental right of every citizen in every country. Freedom of expression and the right to information are crucial in building and maintaining democracy. SwFE, based on the concept of participation, aimed to address these issues from a different, youthful, perspective. OVERALL GOAL - To organise a youth exchange with a focus on increasing media literacy among young people and creating media content by youth that will provide increased local communities attractiveness for future Youth Exchanges. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES - To create a space for young people from 5 European countries for cooperation, exchange of ideas, knowledge, and information, so that they can better recognise the areas that connect them. - To upgrade the digital competencies of young people and the ability to reliably and critically use electronic media for work, rest and communication. - To promote critical thinking and education in the media field and raise awareness of many forms of media messages that young people encounter in everyday life. - To enable youngsters to explore other countries cultures; find similarities and differences and discover amusing locations, content and new opportunities for youth in local communities. - To increase the awareness of young people of social activism and equip them with knowledge about creating media content and how they can apply it in the communities from which they come. - To develop more initiatives and youth participation in social life issues within the framework of the E+ program. The partners wanted to help youth improve digital competencies and upgrade media literacy, together with their peers from Europe. The project was aimed at getting youth interested in researching details, obvious things that are in front of us, which we do not notice - to make their local communities more attractive to young people. We wanted to allow youngsters to look for similarities and discover differences, and thus open the way for new youth exchanges. The project intended to give young people a View with Fresh Eyes - to notice things in different means; to find moments that are interesting to them in ordinary everyday events, to discover what is attractive to youth. We wanted to enable them to create media content that will show what youth want in their local communities. Fresh eyes leverage the experience and ideas of people who are not walking in our shoes. Young people can find interesting things that we fail to see that are right there in front of us - the things that were not obvious because we are too close to see them. The starting point was that the participants get a genuine possibility to experience "Seeing with fresh eyes" by merging into local reality - a daily life perspective, learning from local reality and genuine Intercultural Dialogue. This allowed SwFE to grow and change based on participants' feedback. The project is designed to enable participants to work on their personal development and awareness of the community. We wanted young people to discuss alternative ways to youth involvement, to look for similarities and differences among themselves and get familiar with the different cultures, the youth opportunities and acquire new experiences and cultural knowledge. We wanted to show youth that using social media and creating media content can also be highly effective in supporting citizenship skills and thinking skills if using them in youth-friendly and youth-attractive ways. The partners sought to support youth to improve critical thinking skills and creative problem-solving to become reasonable users and information producers. To help them, through discussion and various non-formal learning activities, through the process of understanding and critical analysis of content offered by traditional and digital media, raise awareness of many forms of media messages encountered in everyday life. We wanted to help them recognize how the media filters their perceptions and beliefs, shape popular culture and influences personal choices. SwFE sought to build a strong understanding of the significance of participation and activism among young people, to become inspired to take control of their own lives, more socially responsible, proactive, critical and at the same time creative in problem-solving. The basic premise was to enable youth to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of digital and media literacy; at the same time engaging them as promoters of social inclusion and creators of media content; to inspire them to become advocates for positive development and active citizens in their communities using the media for social change - to encourage them to See with Fresh Eyes: to notice things in different means.
