Objectives

Everything we do in our daily life, what transport we use, trash we produce and how we handle it, how much water we use, what we eat, and the food we waste... All of these aspects are something on which we don't focus much, caught by our lives' routine, but everyone leaves behind his own ecological footprint which affects nature. There are ways how to reduce it, we just need to realize it and behave accordingly. The first step is to start with ourselves, and only after that, we can spread to others. Following the waste, management hierarchy is a matter of greater importance. Although recycling sounds like the best solution, it is not, ideal would be to not create any trash at all, or at least minimize it. Recycling is not all-positive for nature, since it spends a lot from both economical and environmental points of view, but in the end, the pros outweigh the cons. I.E. it is a known fact that the recycling of plastic, it is used about 88% less energy than the production of new plastic. However, it is recycled only a third of the recyclable material. Another fact is that humanity produces more waste by the minute, thus the problem of storage. Through our project, we wanted to contribute to decreasing the difference among European countries by exchanging good practices and implementing them in other countries. And to do that we want to stimulate the participation of youngsters by pinching their creativity in order to create different comic strips, based on different environmental problems, which will be printed and disseminated among young members of different NGOs, with the local authorities, with all the partner's organizations involved in the project and with local and regional stakeholders. The idea of creating an environment-friendly project came up during our previous Exchange “Star Trek”, in Viggiano. This project was based on outdoor activities connected with nature, which gave us a chance to talk while collaborating, realizing we have common needs, desires, and views on solving the problems in our communities. We decided to talk with our volunteers and organization beneficiaries, to understand if the project is also based on their needs. We wanted to raise awareness about the ecological impact that any individual leaves behind him, but also to let young participants think about a direct way to sensibilize people in a creative way, and together we decided on the comic-strips media, since it is fast, direct, strictly connected to creativity and a communication method which connects young and less young people as well. We made a questionnaire and applied it in all our partner organizations, to young volunteers and beneficiaries between the age of 18 and 25. We gathered 79 responses that genuinely helped us to make a general idea of their knowledge about the environment and ways to protect it, sustainable living, and their desire to make a change. After that, we had several group discussions and we managed to make a problem tree and extract smart objectives from it. Therefore, the aim of our project was to “Encourage young people to get more involved in the protecting environment of their community, and to raise awareness among others” In order to achieve our aim, we set and aimed to reach the following objectives: -exchange information/knowledge about ways to protect the environment -raise awareness among young people about the importance of sustainable living -stimulate creativity thus leading to the creation of comic strips with different environmental topics to be disseminated in the partner countries -to foster a sense of initiative in youngsters -promote values and objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme All these objectives are aligned with Erasmus+ objectives, such as: improve the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, as well as to promote participation in democratic life in Europe and the labour market, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity, in particular through increased learning mobility opportunities for young people, and through strengthened links between the youth field and the labour market; foster quality improvements in youth work, in particular through enhanced cooperation between organisations in the youth field; complement policy reforms at local, regional and national level and to support the development of knowledge and evidence-based youth policy as well as the recognition of non-formal and informal learning, in particular through enhanced policy cooperation, better use of EU transparency and recognition tools and the dissemination of good practices; enhance the international dimension of youth activities and enhance the capacity of youth workers and organisations in their support for young people in complementarity with the European Union's external action, in particular through the promotion of mobility and cooperation between stakeholders from Programme and Partner Countries and international organisations.
