Our project ProtoGreen or Young Prototype Green focused on finding practical solutions to reducing and preventing plastic pollution. During the project, the participants created prototype solutions for plastic recycling and reuse of plastic waste. All five organisations that were partners in the project are part of the global maker community. The project aimed to involve youth in actively tackling the problem of plastic pollution and to increase the environmental awareness of young people at the level of individuals and organisations. We wanted that the youth who participated in the project encouraged others around them to develop solutions and / or to be more environmentally friendly with waste. With openly accessible projects such as Precious plastic, we were able to use modern technologies to experiment, design and participate in the development of practical solutions. The goals of the project were to develop prototype proposals for solving the problem of plastic pollution, to enrich the knowledge pool with prototype proposals through open access, to give participants practical knowledge on the use of fabrication equipment and digital technologies, and to establish international cooperation of youth from participating organisations and their local maker communities.
