Objectives

This youth exchange will take place in Trenčin, Slovakia from 17th to 24th May 2020 and will involve 40 young people aged 16-18 from Slovakia, Portugal, Czech republic and Bulgaria. The young people are all representatives of student parliaments from secondary schools and town student parliaments. The project is an initiative of the young representatives and will be organized by the youth coordinators of Trencin region and city. The aims of the project is to raise awareness about the democratic system and how it reflects on the activities of student parliaments, and consequently increase active youth participation in the lives of their communities. Participants will share their experiences and ideas with other young people from other European countries what's regarding democracy, youth active participation and the work of student parliaments. During the project, the young people will learn more about student parliaments and will also develop some of their soft skills useful for their work in the parliaments. The concrete objectives are for students to exchange experience and good practice in this field, and also experience hands-on how to deal with conflicts, manage groups, give tasks, motivate others, prepare and take part in a discussion with regional representatives, prepare a presentation, etc. Each day of the 8-day youth exchange will be adapted to the needs of participants. According to the lacks they identify at the beginning of the exchange, the activities in the following days will respond to it. They will be actively engaged in the sessions, working in groups to prepare workshops that will tackle issues they identified, coming in direct contact with non-formal methods of education that can be further used in their work in student parliaments. At the end of each day there will be reflection on the daily experiences and feelings. One day will be devoted to activities out in the city, when participants will meet members of the Trencin regional government in a discussion about youth participation. Participants will also actively participate in the organization of the project. They will work in groups divided by area according to their interest and will be responsible for various aspects of the project such as media, photos and Facebook group, the non-formal learning process and Youthpass certificates, order, coffee breaks, propagation, etc. We believe this youth exchange will help participants see student parliaments as a "democracy school" - an opportunity to learn about citizenship and participation in practice. They will be able to use the gained knowledge and experience in their works at parliaments immediately after returning home, so the impact will be seen in a very short time. Everyone involved will be better informed and more active citizens, and will gain the tools to bring change and take active roles in the life of their community. This impact will be seen in various levels, from school to town to region and finally, to an European level.
