Objectives

In order to foster effective and sustainable inter-cultural dialogues in our communities, our partner organisations have planned a project to bring together young people representing both active natives and ethnic / linguistic minority youth from our programme countries of the UK, Latvia, Bulgaria and Romania. We plan to address the "hot topics" of assimilation, cultural diversity, inclusion, and citizenship as they affect young people from ethnic and linguistic minority backgrounds and how inter-cultural dialogue and community projects can work to bring our communities together and reduce alienation of these young people as well as foster their taking a more active and inclusive role in their communities. Our objectives: - to bring together young people to discuss inter-cultural learning through peer education and sharing; - to encourage innovation among the young people so they can create projects in their local communities aimed at promoting inter-cultural dialogue, diversity, inclusion and active citizenship through art, sports, music, theatre, cultural exchanges, volunteer work; - to give these young people the skills they need to develop their own projects; - to promote a wider understanding of social inclusion and how to engage motivated ethnic / linguistic minority youth in inter-cultural dialogues and as active citizens; - to present profiles and experience of participating organisations, creating an atmosphere of common understanding between people from different cultures, working styles etc.; - to empower young people to reach out to and involve their communities locally and continue to broaden their audiences through more wide spread projects; - to identify and share best practices and challenges regarding this topic; - to empower participants to share their knowledge and competences with their peers; - to understand the wider picture of social inclusion and the potential of the Erasmus+ programme to motivate young activists to become project multipliers. This proposal is shaped by the young people themselves, basing on the outcomes of previous projects and initiatives organised by our partners. During previous workshops and plenary sessions on the issues of empowering and equipping peer leaders with tools in the field of youth participation, active citizenship, and social inclusion, young people came up with the idea of this project. We believe that a series of empowerment activities directed at young people from ethnic and linguistic minority backgrounds would enhance the prospects for social inclusion and community engagement through inter-cultural dialogue and an active citizenship approach to practicing grass-root initiatives.
