Objectives

Since communication and related skills, such as language skills, digitalisation and interculturalism, are increasingly indispensable as a prerequisite for individuals, and more so, professional mobility in the digitalised working environment, we have set ourselves the project goal of professionalising our teaching staff for the purpose of increasing the quality of language teaching, as well as enriching and implementing quality assurance in relation to digitalisation. This is supposed to meet the growing demands in international comparison. Specifically, the participants should acquire or expand individual key competences through targeted training, which will enable them to design their teaching more efficiently. This results in an improved implementation of the key competences (foreign language competence as well as cultural awareness, intercultural expressiveness, and digitalisation) in various subjects.

Background

In the spirit of the initiative "Quality in Schools", it was also a concern of the WIKU BRG Graz to constantly review and develop our quality, which led to the implementation of this project. The focus of the curriculum development and expansion is on future-oriented education and, therefore, on the further development of teaching aimed at this. In this context, subjects are newly coordinated or created through the constant expansion of the course system (WIKURS) in the upper school. For teachers this means that teaching is also continuously subject to the demands of change and therefore additional qualifications are necessary, for example in the areas of digitalisation, English as a working language, internationalisation (foreign language offensive: French, Italian, Spanish), or CLIL. So far, we have fulfilled the requirements and guidelines for our type of school, especially regarding language teaching, and implemented them successfully. Nevertheless, we want to keep up with the times and bring our activities up to date with the latest methodology and didactics. The teachers at our school are highly accustomed to taking up new methods and contents (e.g., climate protection) and integrating them into their lessons, which is why the realisation of the project was widely supported.
