Objectives

Feigl: I wanted to get to know new inspirations and ideas for activities and approaches in this field and I wanted to share the new experience with colleagues, teachers and learners in Austria. Langeder: I wanted to share different perspectives on well known Austrian literature and films in Ireland and learn about Irish characters for a better understanding of the European dimension. As well I learned about the Irish education system and offerings for second chance learners by adult education programmes. Likewise, new approaches for the second chance of education were introduced in the AG BRP on May 17, 2022 and discussed with nationwide adult education center experts. A further training course at the adult education center in Vienna is planned for the teaching materials that have been created.

Background

Feigl: In adult education as much as in school-education it is extremely important to enhance the personal and social competences of socio-economically deprived participants. New creative methods and artistic activities can help to strengthen the participants’ self-concept and their resilience. These activities can also help teachers to deal with difficult participants and heterogeneous groups and they facilitate social interaction. Langeder: UCC has a strong reputation for performative teaching and learning. For a better understanding on a European perspectives and values it is very helpful to learn with different films and characters, well known in different countries. We are excited to further our expertise in working with films with Language and Literature. Advanced skills in reading films are very crucial in our contemporary worlds where media competencies in general become increasingly important. Moreover, through the study of films empathy and a sense of democratic values can be fostered, values which are central to the Humanities.
