Building on past jointly initiated school exchanges, the schools aim to develop further their international work at school and the mutual work through exchange of experiences through the Erasmus+ project. Modules on the topic „digitalization an human rights“, as well as history oft he twentieth century were designed together. The schools bring in their own ressources. The project comprises two meetings of the involved teachers in Mauthausen and Empoli, and three school exchanges between Empoli – St. Georgen and Cogollo – Mauthausen. At the school exchanges, following modules are implementet: Module 1: History and Media Module 2: Looking back to move on Module 3: History as a place of learning Accompanying preparational lessions and workshops take place in the run-up, among them theater, language and history courses. The parents are involved in form of host families and parents meetings. The project enables all adolescents of one class to take part in the programme and thereby actively eliminates barriers and decreases disadvantage of socially underprivileged students. The schools exchange themselves about their individual educational potentials. The teachers and the students can get to know them as well in praxis during the modules and the meetings. The schools can therefore learn from each others experiences. The project is an enrichment for students and the results enter sustainably into the repertoire of the schools. The online documentation ensures that the results are shareable.
PROJECT SUMMARY Five schools took part in the School Exchange Partnership "Today as the intersection of yesterday and tomorrow": the new secondary schools from St. Georgen/Gusen and Mauthausen (Austria), the Istituto Comprensivo Empoli Est and Empoli Ovest and the Istituto Comprensivo Statale "Don Carlo Frigo" from Cogollo del Cengio (Italy). Building on their experiences in jointly initiated student exchanges, they have used the Erasmus+ project to further develop their international work at the schools and their joint work through the exchange of experiences. Together, they developed modules for the school exchanges focussing on the following topics - History of Italy and Austria in the 20th century, in particular the Holocaust and fascism - Digitalisation and the human-machine relationship on a personal level - Human rights - Language teaching/exchange Each school contributed its own expertise and resources, but external experts were also brought in. In addition, the teachers also dealt with memorial site pedagogy and Holocaust education. The project included: - Two teacher meetings, one online and one hybrid in St. Georgen/Gusen - One project meeting in Empoli - Three student exchanges, one in St. Georgen, one in Empoli and one in Cogollo The following modules were implemented during the student exchanges: Module 1: History and media Module 2: Looking back in order to move forward Module 3: History as a place of learning Preparatory lessons and workshops were held in advance, including theatre, language and history courses. Parents were involved as host families and in parent cafés. The project enabled all young people in a class to take part in this experience, actively breaking down barriers and reducing the disadvantages faced by socially disadvantaged pupils. The schools exchanged information about their individual educational potential in the subject area of the project. The teachers and pupils were also able to familiarise themselves with these in practice during the modules and meetings. The schools were thus able to learn from each other's experiences. The project enriches the pupils and the results are incorporated into the schools' repertoire in the long term. The online documentation ensures that the results can also be used by others.
