Objectives

The main aim of the youth exchange was to give youngsters from various European countries aged 14 to 18 a platform where they can improve their self-awareness and self-esteem as well as their knowledge and know-how regarding topics such as active democratic citizenship, human rights, and children's rights. In addition to that, the youngsters were encouraged to take active participation in the development of the program by proposing workshops on taboo topics to be facilitated as group discussions that were relevant to their own life as well as facilitation workshops themselves. This part of the project aimed to strengthen the participant’s sense of identity and sensitivity regarding political topics such as feminism and gender equality as well as their abilities to engage in meaningful dialogues (listening) and improve their communication skills (arguing). Finally, the youth exchange was concluded by the participants developing and presenting their own social projects dedicated to solving a social problem that was important to them. This aimed towards empowering the participants to active participation in their communities beyond the youth exchange. Overall the youth exchange was an interplay between workshops and free time, which the participants could use to make friends, relax and practice informal transcultural learning.
