FLE+ aims at supporting the regional cooperation already initiated by Bruxelles FLE by: 1. Strengthening the collaboration between the project partners in order to support the local initiatives, 2. Improving and retailoring the FLE’s training and teaching offer according to the learners’ actual needs; 3. Encouraging the reflection and the ongoing dialogue on the issues surrounding the reception, training and inclusion of migrants, and encouraging the implementation of cross-fertilisation schemes, 3. Initiating a European network of language training centers for migrants, 4. Developing the skills and expertise of the consortium members in order to encourage the professionalization of the FLE trainers working with migrants. This is about methodological (exposure to the professional techniques and educational methods of the partners), digital, social (ability to set up cross-sector projects, create partnerships, participate in new areas of cooperation, involvement in the European training field), and human (stimulated by exposure to other learning methods and professional practices thanks to the immersion experience in the partner countries) skills.
A series of problems characterizes the offer of French as a Second Language’s training (FLE) in Brussels, such as the lack of coordination of the FLE’s offer and its fragmentation, the isolation of innovative initiatives, as well as for the lack of appropriate training for trainers and the need for trainers to update their practices. In order to address such challenges, the project FLE+ has been conceived within the Bruxelles FLE working groups (an initiative from the ASBL Proforal) and developed starting from the request of local FLE trainers to get knowledge of the mechanisms, tools and approaches that exist in the EU framework. To this extent, FLE+ is a consortium of 7 Brussels-based bodies working in the framework of reception and language training for newly arrived migrants coordinated by Proforal with the aim of setting up a mobility scheme for FLE trainers in Brussels. The objective is to enable FLE trainers to exchange best practices and develop cross-sectoral projects, thus providing better support to adults migrants learning French as a second language in Brussels.
