Objectives

The aim of this project was both to broaden and update steiner pedagogy. For beginning teachers, being able to follow a week-long specific course in the Netherlands focused on getting into steiner pedagogy and interactively gaining and exchanging professional knowledge and expertise. We believe it is important that the teacherstaff can continue to be trained and inspired. Experienced teachers and school leaders should be able to take a look at other schools and exchange with colleagues in order to work innovatively in terms of school policy, supervision of teachers, shaping the professionalisation of the team, discussing curriculum matters and creating partnerships both between the different schoolsites in Belgium and at European level. The school's international network must be expanded in order to be able to collaborate more effectively in the future and to offer international opportunities to teacherstaff and students.

Background

In our increasingly fast growing school, the need for mentoring of beginning teachers was/is high. In the past, teachers were given the opportunity to receive further training in steiner pedagogy in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, etc. where Waldorf pedagogy also has teacher training programmes. Through this project we wanted to facilitate professionalisation by attending specific courses in the Netherlands and also make it possible to gain inspiration in groups by doing job shadowing. The structured courses enable teachers to deepen their knowledge of steiner pedagogy and their knowledge and expertise in teaching specific subjects. Teachers and schoolleaders were enabled to gain and exchange insight and inspiration both with immediate colleagues and with colleagues from other schools about school organisation, traditional and current steiner pedagogy. Members of the board were enabled through job shadowing to exchange with foreign colleagues about renewal processes, professionalisation of team members and future partnerships for teachers and also pupils.
