For our program, competency development includes not only performance and demonstration of professional knowledge, but also developing students in self-confidence, perseverance, willingness to dialogue and a sense of responsibility. However, due to a lack of opportunities or support, not all of them succeed in developing or refining these soft skills think of social skills, communicating in a foreign language and showing leadership. More than 30% of our students have a family background of opportunity poverty and migration. Gaining a vocational qualification is an important means of reducing social exclusion and disadvantaged poverty. In addition to training of soft skills, we want to prepare our students for social developments in which digitalization, diversity and globalization are central. In this way we can meet our goal of delivering strong professionals who are ready for the labor market. The ambition is that internationalization is fully embedded in our school to grow further into an innovative, professional and inclusive school with a focus on evidence-based practices.
As part of the 2018-2023 Annual Strategic Action Plan on lifelong learning within an international context, one of our goals is to enable our students to develop into professional and critical nurses in a global and pluralistic society that is constantly changing. We want to teach them knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to integrate into this society in a conscious and critical manner. Internationalization is therefore an integral part of our educational mission. We note a too limited commitment among our teachers to lifelong learning in an international context, both in education and in nursing and health care. For teachers to be able to create the best learning opportunities for students, assess their own learning needs for this challenge and take responsibility for their own professional development, it is necessary for teachers to have a mindset that is focused on growth within the EU. In addition, we want to test and compare our education with other European educational organizations in terms of nursing curricula and teaching methodologies.
