Objectives

The Young European’s Seminar (YES!) is a large-scale event organised by YFU in Werbellinsee, Germany for more than 30 years. It marks the end of a year-long intercultural experience for 500 young people. While one of the usual aims of the seminar is to prepare the students for their return home, in 2020 we also aimed to offer participants an immersive learning experience on important European and global topics, paving the way for them to become responsible and active citizens. This project aimed to empower young people to become actors of change in society by bringing them in contact with active youth workers and volunteers to discuss relevant European and global issues, and together, explore different tools and methods to tackle them. To achieve this, 39 youth workers were trained to deliver non-formal education sessions covering 3 global topics – climate crisis, migration, inequality - and through it, to encourage active discussions of how can young people come together and contribute to solving these issues. The objectives of the project were to: -Increase and strengthen young peoples’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to tackle the current European and global issues such as climate crisis, migration, and inequality. -Provide an opportunity for active and engaged youth workers to reach out to young people,to share methods and tools for creating a tangible change in society, and to act as multipliers, while at the same time improving their own skills. -Contribute to a more engaged, knowledgeable, and capable new generation of people, who proactively engage in the democratic life by participating in political debates and policy reforms at a local, regional, and national level. -Provide an opportunity for building bridges between different generations, nationalities, and ideologies, and thus contributing to a more peaceful and inclusive society. -Improve the quality of youth work through enhanced cooperation between non-governmental organisations in the youth field.
