Objectives

Bulgarian Memory Foundation (BMF), together with Grupa Liberalnih, ambicioznih I Solidarni R.Serbia (GLAS) and the Bulgarian-Albanian Friendship Society (DBAP), initiated a project on "Improved digital and sustainable future of young people in Europe through enhancing diversity and developing transformative skills and skills of the future" based on: 1) The Erasmus + priorities for 2020 related to "reaching to marginalized young people", "improving critical thinking and feeling of initiative in young people" 2) 3/8 areas of the EU Youth Strategy ( 2019-2027) including employment and entrepreneurship, education and training, social inclusion; 3) The vision on Education 2030 of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) , which formulates the so-called. "Transformative competencies", which envisage developing in young people's innovation, responsibility and awareness: * Creating new values, * Thinking in an integrated way, * Taking responsibility; 4) EntreComp: Entrepreneurial Competence Framework developed by the EC and presenting entrepreneurship as a transversal skill comprising of 15 competencies; 5) The European Commission's reflection paper of 30 January 2019: "Towards a sustainable Europe by 2030" setting out the EU's priorities for the future: *Developing a fully circular economy and *Creating a sustainable environment. The idea for this project was born during the XXV Traditional Spring Workshop of the BMF. During "The Young People and the Future of the EU" session, a group of young people (15-24) from the three partner organizations identified common problems and challenges facing the three countries: 1) Risk of social and exclusion of their peers, who do not participate in any form of employment, education or training (called NEETs) and have low social status; 2) Insufficient conditions for entrepreneurship: according to the Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI 2019), Bulgaria ranks 61st, Serbia 67th and Albania 87th out of 137 countries; 3) Risk of falling into (self) isolation due to lack of digital and other skills. In the context of the above, the project aims to develop with the methods of non-formal education in 60 young people aged 15-24 (1/3 with different ethnic and religious backgrounds and low social status) from the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Albania specific entrepreneurial, transversal, transformative, digital and social and civic competences as a opportunity to promote their critical thinking, initiative and enterprise with a view of *effectively communicating fundamental societal values, *a better educational and professional perspective; * forming a green way of thinking. A 5-day-long youth exchange is planned to take place in Sofia (BG) with participants aged 15-24. (more than 1/3 of them with different ethnic and religious backgrounds and low social status). In assessing the needs of the target group, the young people summarized the needs for developing of: 1) Transversal and entrepreneurial skills in the context of the prospect of participation in the circular economy and environmental care, the so-called green entrepreneurship; 2) Ability to think critically and transformatively, through which they can compete in the context of global labor market trends, thereby counteracting the risks of social exclusion and poverty in their local communities; 3) Ability to integrate and make a real contribution to the pan-European trend for conservation of natural resources, sustainable development and green growth. 4) Digital transformation and the skills of the future, bearing in mind that by the year of 2020 some 90% of the jobs will require some level of digital skills and that 65% of current students will be working in professions that do not yet exist today. In response to the identified needs, young people after participating in the non-formal education project will: 1) Be able to use information on the Internet more informedly, consciously and critically, and improve their ability to use such information to create innovation; 2) Be able to better identify the scope and nature of entrepreneurial ideas and opportunities for (employment) realization embedded in the paradigm of the circular economy and Europe's green and digital future; 3) Give new value to diversity and be able to view it as a resource for their future successful endeavors; 4) Develop their critical thinking skills, creativity, advanced "outside the box" thinking skills; 5) Improve their ability to creatively and pragmatically describe innovative ideas that fit into the concepts of a digital and sustainable future for Europe; 6) Improve their communication&working with people skills; 7) Develop a set of knowledge and skills to avoid falling into the NEETs category and the spiral of social exclusion; 8) Improve their awareness of EU values by developing their capacity to tolerate differences.
