The empowerment of young people to participate actively in society is one of the main goals of the Lisbon treaty. This project addresses the need to invest in the development of social capital and youth’s ability to participate actively in society, by supporting youth workers improving the quality of their work in the field of sustainability, responsible consumption, and active citizenship. True to the lifelong learning concept, we address trainers’ needs to be more effective and knowledgeable when helping youngsters to understand humans' personal and collective impact on the environment and how it affects society. This project tackles socio-economic changes, the key challenges that Europe will be facing until the end of the decade, in accordance with the main issues addressed by the Erasmus+ Programme. The objectives of this project are: 1. To train 20 youth workers from and environmental activists from 5 countries on the topics of Responsible Consumption/Zero Waste/Sustainability. 2. To organize an event on Responsible Consumption/Zero Waste/Sustainability in each partnering country and engage at least 20 youngsters per event to multiply the effects of the training by reaching out to young people. 3. To raise awareness on the imminent environmental issues and bring it in the focus of skilled youth workers as an opportunity to gain knowledge on a highly important topic or further build develop their professional competencies. Building capacity on the topics of sustainable development and environmental matters will broaden the participants’ competences and enhance their professional skills. The acquired knowledge and provided tools will help improve the quality of their work and make them more competitive and flexible in their future occupations. This objective is also aligned with the EU Youth Strategy, namely Goal 5 - Mental Health & Well-being, Goal 8 - Quality Learning, Goal 10 - Sustainable Green Europe, and Goal 11 - Youth Organizations & European Programmes. This project will also support EU’s Commission Work Programme 2019 commitment to address the challenges arising from an increasingly volatile global situation in which demographics, competition for resources, and climate change which require a shared push to sustainability. This projects supports Erasmus+ Programme General objective on improving the quality and efficiency of education, training and youth work in line with the Europe 2020 Strategy, the objectives of the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training, as well as the Engaging, Connecting and Empowering young people: a new EU Youth Strategy with regards the notion of young people and their commitment to address global challenges as the sustainable development goals. The project supports youth empowerment at the grassroots level and promotes cooperation between youth NGOs to better connect with policymakers and practitioners at a regional and local level and encourage grassroots green initiatives by youth. As youth engagement in the field of environmental and climate issues and realities is gaining traction and the increased risk of extreme weather events is likely to continue, we see a need for promoting SDGs, build capacity and encourage tools and knowledge sharing between the participants of the project.
