Our implementation objective was to make students understand that we can teach ancient Greek in a modern way. In the 21st century, learning can be both useful and fun! Technology plays a fundamental role in teaching adolescents. Our students were allowed to use them in a variety of subjects, such as Ancient Greek, History, English, Environmental issues and European programs. The specific change we wanted to achieve included the change of attitude the students have towards Ancient Greek. We came to realize that firstly, they were reluctant in choosing the subject-they considered it difficult - and secondly, they were under the impression that it did not touch them. Nevertheless, after encouraging them to use digital tools, to approach the subject of Ancient Greek they changed their attitude since all meanings are still useful for their lives. As they said, game - based learning increases students’ engagement and creates a dynamic educational environment. In addition, teaching English nowadays has changed a lot, as students want the lesson to be done via various methods and one of them is definitely the usage of tecnhology. The undeniably important tool which is called internet is what our students want and need from us. You cant teach English nowadays if students are not given the chance to aquire new information uding the internet. The digital approach is the approach of the future and we, as teachers have been strongly encouraged to acquire this knowledge by our Principals at school, our Inspectors and also the Ministry of Education and be in a position to teach according to progressive, modern and student friendly methods. E-learning and the digital competence are two things every educators of 21 century needs to try hard to acquire if he/she wants to see the world from a highly qualified trainer view. Consequently, our new venture would not only benefit us as teachers but also our students as they would be introduced to new methods and material and also all our colleagues as they would be informed, be given the chance to improve their teaching style and take things a step further.
We have worked for years on similar projects trying to broaden our educational horizons, explore new scientific paths and enhance our ability not only to teach our students providing high quality of teaching but also to make sure that our competence is a non ending journey based on the theory of life long learning. We have been trying to make sure that the education journey never ends for us, doing our best to discover new directions and be ready and alert for new challenges. We knew from the beginning that this new project would definitely boost our confidence and educational status; it would give us the chance to work in an area of our interest as the digital educational approach is a demanding daily reality for us. as well as our students. We have been trying to integrate these new techniques in a modern teaching style suitable for our students and according to the demands of the Ministry of Education. It is a necessity in the 2023 educational system of Cyprus to be able to differentiate the teaching approaches used and adopt new ones more progressive and innovative. It is an urgent necessity both from our pincipals as well as the Ministry, so we, as teachers need to focus on new elements which will enhance our ability to teache our students looking towards a new era. So, our participation in this project would, not only benefit us but also our students who not only want but demand to be taught according to educational methods of their interest as they are themselves not only highly motivated but qualified, adequately informed and extremely competent. Additionally, we would be given the chance to improve our and our students IT skills, learn how to function and work in a safe and well protected environment. This new knowledge would boost our confidence and help us see the teaching procedure from a completely new prespective, with more confidence and willingness to create new educational environments for the sake of our students. We felt that there was enough space for extra development in this area and that Inercia Digital could provide all the informationa necessary for us to explore and get better in something highly needed.
