By participating the "Innovative Approaches to Teaching" project we expected to significantly enhance the good quality and effectiveness of our teaching. Teachers would develop skills in order to diversify their teaching by making it more attractive and efficient. This way, our students would form a positive attitude towards the school, become happier in the school environment and have better academic achievements. We also wanted teachers to gain techniques in working with heterogeneous classrooms. They would be able to support the inclusion of various minorities into the mainstream education based on democratic values and promote their active participation in society. We also expected that the interaction with other European colleagues would give us the opportunity to become familiar with their educational methods, practices and cultures. The course would help us exchange experiences and good practices among people coming from different countries who work in the same field and also help the school community to develop a sense of European identity.
One of our schools' main objectives is to promote the teachers' continuous learning in order to be able to motivate, guide and assess students to reduce low achievement in key competences, develop relevant, high-level and innovative skills and enhance good quality of mainstream education. Our school has heterogeneous classrooms with children of different abilities, different educational and emotional needs and different native language as well. Thus, we expected that the techniques gained by the course, would help the teachers in our school to support the inclusion of various minorities into the mainstream education based on democratic values and to promote their active participation in the society. Moreover, our school encourages the participation of teachers and students in various European and international projects. Through these projects our teachers are able to develop new skills, get to know first-hand the workings of other European educational systems, learn and share new ideas and explore best practices to bring back home.
