Objectives

- Learning to apply modern and alternative teaching methods, especially through the widespread use of technological means, to make the learning process more flexible and interesting for children of all learning levels. - Becoming more familiar with alternative teaching methods, e.g. outdoor teaching, non-formal and informal education etc. that correspond to a more holistic understanding of learning, one that does not constrain itself within the traditional classroom and one which recognises and embraces the different learning styles of students. - Modernising the school management system through the introduction of similar systems implemented by other countries, particularly in Northern Europe - Inclusive Education: this objective is directly related to the development and application of more alternative and contemporary teaching methods. The use of modern teaching methods that extensively have the use of technology at their core will also address the inclusion of children with learning difficulties. The use of technology in special education helps break the barriers for people with disabilities and provide them with access to the most relevant educational programs. - Cultivation of EU awareness.

Background

Considering that the school is located in a rural area (22 km from the city center of Nicosia, half an hour drive), there was a need to find a way to bridge this gap and address the need of bringing together its teachers and learners with more innovative methods of teaching, and a more holistic understanding of EU identity. The school wanted to address the need for teachers and students for more involvement in EU-funded projects and mobilities in the context of these projects, especially students from the periphery of the school, who live in less serviced areas (with limited public transportation to the city and elsewhere especially). Additionally, the school wanted to address the need for more modernized, technologically updated teaching methods, which can address the specific learning needs of students in the 21st century, and which also recognize the individual learning styles of students, allowing for a more open-minded approach to teaching – and learning.
