Our goal was to make the project participants incorporate active learning methods into teaching. We wanted to introduce the CLIL method into the teaching of science subjects at the lower level of grammar school. We planned to involve all pupils of the lower grammar school in multi-day project teaching. Pupils of the upper grammar school were supposed to participate in the project day 2x during their studies. Participants who take a course focusing on the use of IT in lessons should apply the acquired knowledge in teaching and share it with colleagues. Participants whose courses were aimed at developing critical thinking and creativity also had to use new knowledge in teaching and share it with colleagues. Thanks to job shadowing, we wanted to gain experience with school management as well as examples of good practice across subjects. All teachers were to share their experience and information with colleagues and pupils, to find out the possibilities of international cooperation, to support education within the EU in the form of lectures, workshops, discussions, project activities, articles and contributions to social media and to the regional newspaper.
We applied for this project to increase the chances of meeting the key needs and objectives of our organisation in the field of European cooperation. We wanted to improve competences of teachers so that they could communicate in English, draw information from foreign language sources and introduce the CLIL method at least partially into teaching in science subjects. Familiarization with new teaching methods should lead to more attractive and effective process of education at our school both in the teaching of English and in the teaching of other subjects. At the same time, we wanted to support project teaching at the lower and higher levels of grammar school. Due to the increasing importance of teaching informatics and the use of IT in teaching, we also wanted to professionally train foreign language teachers. As a regional grammar school, it is important for us to get acquainted with other school systems in other EU countries, to monitor school management, the way individual subjects are taught in schools and to draw examples of good practice that can be applied to our school. We want to increase the competitiveness of the grammar school by improving and modernizing teaching and engaging in projects at the international level.
