The need of our school in the long term is to increase the quality of the education and to keep up with the European schools with which we have been cooperating for a long time. The teachers at our school have a good education obtained mainly from the Palacký University in Olomouc and regularly participate in trainings, webinars and seminars in the region. We would like to learn something new that has not yet caught on in the region. While searching for examples of good practice abroad, we found that teaching in western Turkey is based on a holistic approach to education, which corresponds with our aim to introduce elements of CLIL into lessons. In Turkish schools, they have experience with this and are very successful, that is why we decided to learn the effective use of the CLIL method from them and gradually start putting it into practice.
Our school has long-term emphasis on language skills and sports. As part of improving language skills, we decided to introduce the CLIL method into lessons so that English becomes a natural part of life for the pupils. The need of the school was also to strengthen intersubject relations between teachers, and this is exactly what the project aimed at thanks to joint education in a foreign language and the sharing of acquired experience during meetings. None of our teachers had experience with the CLIL method, so we looked for a partner school that already uses this method. We contacted all former partner schools from the Comenius and Erasmus projects. We were lucky as one of the schools replied that they were working with this method. We established an initial communication, contacted the English teacher who supports the CLIL method at this school. He was willing to cooperate and actively helped us in writing the grant application. He also mediated communication with the director in connection with the preparation of the program for our teachers and interpreted during communication with him. He provided us with invitation letters and allowed us to participate in online classes in the period of covid.
