Background

Hladnov Gymnasium and Language School in Ostrava are involved in many international projects that take place mainly in English or Spanish language (Erasmus+ KA1, Erasmus+ KA2, e-Twinning, MATH4U). On the basis of an international agreement between the Czech Republic and Spain, there is a Czech-Spanish bilingual study at our school. In addition to Spanish language and literature, subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, history and geography are also taught in Spanish. It is obvious that such a school requires not only qualified teachers with excellent knowledge of languages, but also capable management who can manage the school at an international level, and last but not least, also teachers for whom a foreign language is a tool to modernize their subjects. The project follows on from previous projects of the European school development plan and focuses on improving school management, establishing cooperation with bilingual schools in Slovakia, deepening language competences and strengthening environmental education and professional growth of teachers through teaching activities abroad (Spain, Slovakia). Moreover, increasing the school's competitiveness in the Moravian-Silesian region is also a significant contribution of the project.
