Objectives

The foundation of current education system in many European countries is in Prussian reforms from the beginning of XIX century. That is the time when were created: dividing students into grades, three levels of school system (primary, secondary, university), organization of school year. It also included practical changes, like using a bell at the beginning and the end of the lesson, creating classes of 30 students, and organizing furniture in classroom - all desks facing teacher's cathedral. At this time teacher was a main source of knowledge - the access to books, not even thinking about digital technology and internet - was really limited. Since that, the reality around us has remarkably changed, but elements mentioned above are still present in most of the schools. Of course, in some aspects it is worth to follow tradition, but at the other hand we need to be open for new things around us and adapt to changing world. What is more, as often said, the role of education is to prepare children for their future lives. This means that actually teachers, educators, must permanently think of "tomorrow". Given examples show how slowly are happening changes in school and education system and that in many aspects they have not reached even "today". Future of Education - Education of Future - was a project aiming to bring development in field of education, obviously in a scope reachable by involved organizations. The project was initiated by Czech and Lithuanian youth workers, who gathered and commonly reflected on future of education and how they can accelerate changes. We see the chance for progress in education by bigger connection of formal and non-formal education, which actually creates powerful space for youth work. As an important we see following aspects: - Non-formal education brings different perspective, where responsibility for learning outcomes is not any more on teacher/educator but each person takes it personally for themselves. Teacher´s role changes into being a guide, facilitator in this process. - The focus of non-formal education is not on just gaining knowledge, it is on competencies so combining information also with skills and attitudes. - Non-formal education uses methods which require more activity from learners, might attract students who are less motivated for studying, and might lead to improvement of learning performance and prevention of dropout The project was dedicated to education of future so another relevant element of it was use of technologies in educational purpose. Objectives of the project were: - to reflect on education of future and create conception of it, including cross-sector education, joining elements of formal and non-formal education, taking into account inclusion - to support better understanding and cooperation between representatives of formal and non-formal education - to enhance attitude of teachers and youth workers for using innovations in their work and brining changes in education so it is more effective and correlates more with modern world - to develop competencies of youth workers, especially in use of digital tools - to exchange good practice and share experience between organizations and their workers - to extend partnership between organizations and increase their capacity of cooperation on changes in education
