Objectives

The “Green Capacity” was an 8-day international training course focused on exploring practical solutions, actions and worldviews related to the social and ecological crisis that Europe and the world is facing at the moment while equipping youth workers with methodology, skills, knowledge and attitudes to support and empower young people to take meaningful action in a regenerative way. Along the lines with The EC’s Youth for Climate Action initiative,we recognised the role of youth work as crucial to support young people to ”seize on the spirit of renewal and regeneration that is summed up in the Paris Agreement, bringing more education on climate change, sustainable lifestyles, consumption patterns and building adaptive capacity and resilience so that more young people can become champions in their local communities.Strong social and environmental awareness further unite young people to negotiate with a single voice on a global level.” The project was also designed in line with the European Youth Goals (youthgoals.eu),especially on goal 11 “A Sustainable and Green Europe” and Goal 5 “Mental Health and Wellbeing”. In the context of environmental and social challenges, we believe that these 2 goals are interconnected. According to research, the climate and environmental emergency is leading to the increase of mental health issues in young people, with many experiencing feelings of despair, eco-anxiety and grief. The project’s main aim was to develop capacities of youth workers and educators to create regenerative and inspiring learning environments to empower young people from all backgrounds to act as agents of change for environmental and sustainable development. Specific objectives of the project were: O1. To provide learning context for youth workers to explore and develop common understanding of current environmental and social challenges, the role of regenerative youth work and personal responsibility. O2. To equip youth workers with practical knowledge, innovative approaches and non-formal education tools to be able to empower young people from all backgrounds to actively respond to environmental and social challenges. O3. To experience living example of sustainable community and impact of volunteering. O4. To introduce eco-centric educational approaches and developmental stages and broaden the understanding of youth workers regarding the needs, opportunities and risks for young people at each stage. O5. To empower youth workers to design, adapt and develop practices for contributive regenerative work in their field based on personal talents and strengths . O6. To create international networks, motivate and inspire youth workers to further work with young people, especially hard to reach youth
