RelEASE was an action-oriented project focused on social inclusion of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, through embodied arts and media. Youngsters in risk of social exclusion often face difficulties in their everyday interactions, have a lack of motivation and initiatives as well as low self-respect. Therefore they tend to withdraw from their local communities and create hazardous behavioral patterns. In the meantime, the youth workers that are interacting with these youngsters face their own challenges as well. They are confronted to reach out to these youngsters and keep them motivated and interested by creating engaging activities. Hand to hand with this, they are missing the space to advance their professional and personal skills in order to be more impactful in their youth work. Together with our partners we identified the following needs: • Young people: need to have space and support to express themselves, realize their potential and become active members of society • Youth workers: need to renew their methods when it comes to reaching out to young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, and have space to exchange or develop good practices in a network of professionals facing similar challenges In order to address these needs, we decided together with our partners to create the Release project and approach the situation more systematically: to directly support both youth workers and the youth they are working with. The main methodology used is embodied arts (bodywork, theater, dance, music) and media (videos & photos). Art as a tool stimulates learning for everyone because it is basic, simple, creative, universally understandable and works for everybody beyond any limitation of language, disability, education level, race. Media is a powerful tool that works as an instrument for reflection, effective dissemination and it boosts participants’ engagement. Combining these with creating local-based actions will bring lasting impact. RelEASE had 3 phases (Training Course (TC), Youth Exchange (YE), Local-based Actions) In the TC, youth workers were trained in embodied arts methodology. Some youth workers from partner organizations then joined the YE as group leaders and put into practice their learning while supporting the young participants to create the activities during and after the YE. The last phase was the local-based actions realized by the project participants supported by the youth workers and the partner organizations. In this way, all parties of the project have the chance to put in practice their learning and create a long-lasting impact for themselves and others. The aim of the RelEASE project was to address social inclusion in a systematic way (young people - youth workers - local community) through the use of embodied arts and media. This aim was reached through the following objectives: • To bring together 27 youth workers in the Training Course, while making sure that 100% of the group is working with young people with fewer opportunities. • To bring together 45 young people in the Youth Exchange, while making sure that 60% of the group is with fewer opportunities. • The 27 youth workers to become familiar with all different embodied arts activities and bring variety in their working style with the aim of social inclusion • The 45 participants of the Youth Exchange to develop new skills and competences through non-formal learning: embodied art sessions, field trips, media creation activities, workshops, educational games and performances. • The 9 partner organizations to broaden their network and acquire new tools and skills in order to address their target group’s need for social inclusion • The 27 youth workers to create a practical toolkit with embodied reflection activities as a dissemination material • The 45 participants to create and disseminate 4 media materials (videos, photos albums) as tangible results of the Youth Exchange. • The participants, supported by the youth workers and their organisation, to implement at least one local-based action such as workshop, video presentation, performance, art installation etc • The youth workers to use the gained knowledge and experience back in their organisation during the local-based actions and after in order to support their target groups. • To ensure that evaluation happens during the whole project timeline, through 72 Youth-passes, 72 questionnaires (one per participant), 9 partners’ interviews
