Objectives

Our project had multiple objectives. The first objectives were to improve and develop the participants' communication skills, specifically rhetoric and eristic skills, and to improve their expressive skills in general, for example, in terms of reducing nervousness about speaking in front of large numbers of people, etc. By improving these competencies of the participants, we further aimed to increase the level of active citizenship in their and our region. Another impact of increasing these competencies is to improve the ability to understand other opinions, which leads to the prevention of radicalization of youth and an increase in the level of tolerance. The aim was also to improve the participants' "soft skills" in general by improving their communication skills, leading for example to an increase in their value on the labour market, etc. The other objectives of the project were intercultural learning and education about political and social situations in contemporary Europe. The participants met people they would not have met otherwise and, by conducting dialogues in a foreign language, learned first-hand a lot about the environment in other European countries. Furthermore, intercultural evenings were also used for intercultural learning, during which participants improved their presentation skills as well as learned a lot of new information. In addition to informal conversations, participants gained a better understanding of, for example, political issues in contemporary Europe and a general awareness of the contemporary situation in their home countries, especially during simulation workshops where we discussed the topics together. Our youth exchange also directly aimed at developing language competences, i.e. communication in a foreign language - English. Compared to other youth exchanges, the activities were designed so that the participants spoke more coherently for a longer period of time and learned to argue in English, rather than just trying to verbally defend their positions.
