Project summary

In the programme of the adult education within the project „Saving water“, Spolek absolventů a přátel zemědělské školy in Chrudimi, z.s. as a project coordinator focuses on one of the sub-themes of the global problem of the world - water protection (saving water). For our project plan, we chose the area of agriculture which is divided into 4 project themes, namely water conservation in a crop production, a livestock production, a maintaining water in the landscape and a using plant and animal residues and waste as an alternative source of energy. The objectives of the project will be met in the form of seven-days mobility in the partner countries, where the training courses will be held on the specific subject. The excursions to relevant organizations will be as a part of the training as examples of good practice. The topic of "Crop production" will be presented by Bulgaria (EUROPEAN CENTER FOR QUALITY OOD), "Livestock production" by Portugal (EduPlus - European Center for Education and Skills Development, Lda), "Maintaining water in the landscape" by the Czech Republic ( Spolek absolventů a přátel zemědělské školy in Chrudimi, z.s) and "Using plant and animal residues and waste as an alternative source of energy" by Spain (MAGENTA CONSULTORIA PROJECTS SL). The specific and diverse selection and representation of partners in the project is based on geographical location and different climatic areas which will be a great and valuable asset for gaining new information and exchanging experience in agriculture with an impact on saving water. As this is a very demanding and comprehensive topic, experts and workers from all levels of work and management working directly with the target group of workers in agriculture, ecology and landscape development will be involved in this project as menotors and trainers. The results of the project will be presented in a brochure that will be freely downloadable in English and in the languages of the partner countries on the websites of the participating organizations in the project.

Objectives

We dealt with project partner organizations these topics and goals: a) crop production - BG - new types of crops resistant to drought - agricultural measures during crop rotation - use of organic fertilizers - methods of irrigation b) livestock production - PT - ensuring a necessary quality of water in a required quantity for farm animals - water management in livestock, possibilities of recycling and saving technological water - ensuring unlimited access to water for farmed animals c) maintaining water in the landscape - CZ - use of hydroponics in agriculture - possibilities of retaining rainwater, collecting water on paved surfaces and its subsequent use - methods of retaining water in landscape, new methods of management - environmental measures in relation to climate change - measures against erosion, reduction of evaporation from soil and negative effects of land meliroation d) use of plants and animal residues and waste as an alternative source of energy - SP - importance of biowaste in agriculture and its effect on agricultural production - gaining bio material to increase an absorption capacity of soil - improving soil structure thanks to organic fertilization - use of bio waste as an alternative source of energy

Background

As a result of global warming, more areas suffer from drought and lack of water every year. Drought and high temperature have affected the southern countries of EU and begun to attack Central European countries. It is important all people to be awared of this crisis and be educated to save water and take the necessary measures. Solving water shortage became a key topic of the project: - since 2000, average annual temperature has increased, but precipitation is lower - since 2017, there is still a high water deficit - there is a faster mineralization of organic matter, and thus the ability of soil to absorb water - high soil erosion due to torrential rains - drought in previous years reduced a yield of bulk fodder, and thus a production of fodder, this influencede conditions for animal husbandry - we must learn to keep the max. amount of water in landscape - countries from drought areas began to use crops with a lower transpiration coefficient and use irrigation water in the form of aquaponics and drip irrigation - we need to find common solutions of a lack of water at an international level - international exchange of good experience and knowledge and gain new information help to quickly respond to changing climate conditions
