The internshipment abroad of trainees and trainers is an important building block for the long-term realization of the internationalization strategy of the participating institutions. They support the European understanding and support the development of a European labor and education market. Well-functioning partnerships can react quickly to imbalances and changes, create flexibility and security in the projects. Innovative training companies with offers for stays abroad, educational staff and trainees with international skills and institutions with experience in using the ECVET instruments and in handling educational cooperation ultimately realize a European economic area with improved employment opportunities for young people and older workers, reduce youth unemployment and combat skills shortages.
The strong export country Germany needs skilled workers with international experience, i.e. foreign language skills, intercultural skills, getting to know new working methods and operational processes, but the companies themselves also benefit from the newly gained motivation, independence and willingness to perform of the trainees. A study by the Erasmus+ program shows: Young people who are completing part of their studies or those who complete their training abroad not only acquire new specialist knowledge, but also important cross-sectoral skills that are highly valued by employers. Participation in the internship abroad, even during the training, imparts these skills and helps to create a culture of welcome in Germany for foreign employees in the company. In the future, this will make it easier to hire skilled workers as well as trainees, e.g. from other European countries. A stay abroad during training increases the lucrative nature of the training occupation and is therefore an incentive for young people to opt for dual vocational training. For the companies, the participants provide an increase in international skills.
