The project aimed "equipping" apprentices/young skilled workers in various trades with additional linguistic, technical, social and intercultural skills by relocating them to a company in Norway, Italy and Austria. The application which was submitted shortly before the start of the Corona pandemic, envisaged further relocations to the Netherlands, France and Spain. The trainees/young professionals were to: 1. receive targeted preparation and organisational support from the sending and receiving institutions 2. broaden their competences and go into their professional and private future with a positive, European-oriented view. 3. be open, tolerant and empathetic towards their fellow migrants. 4. pass on the "spirit of European mobility" to subsequent trainees/young professionals and in their environment (friends, school, family, etc.). 5. promote the dual German VET system to Europe. With the trainer job shadowing, participating companies should also sharpen and broaden their own view beyond their professional horizon. We wanted to dispel the prejudice that "mobilities are holiday trips" and the initial scepticism towards Erasmus+ projects.
The Chamber of Skilled Crafts Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Stade carries out such projects to help combat the shortage of skilled workers by giving its member companies the opportunity to offer trainees or young skilled workers an added value in form of a professional experience abroad and with financial support through Erasmus+. The crafts can thus show that experience abroad is not only possible in the context of university studies, but also in the context of a vocational training programme or in the context of a subsequent vocational training programme. In this way, the companies have a unique selling proposition for their trainee marketing and not only for the group of trainees with an university degree. Job shadowing for training staff gives company owners and those responsible for training the opportunity to look beyond their own professional horizons. Overall, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Stade would like to use this Erasmus+ project (and alongside its other projects for people with a migration background) to set an example for tolerance, intercultural inclusion, true to the motto "For us, it's not where you come from that counts, but where you want to go".
