Background

ITKAM - The Italian Chamber of Commerce for Germany has been promoting the exchange of good practices in dual training between Italy and Germany, as well as the mobility of learners, for more than 10 years. Although European funds for mobility are increasing, the participation of VET learners in Germany is still very low. According to the NA beim BIBB, only 5.3 per cent of German trainees did part of their traineeship abroad in 2017. This is due to: - A lack of awareness of the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ VET programme: Erasmus exchanges are still perceived as mainly reserved for university students - A scepticism of German companies towards the benefits that mobility can bring to the trainee (and therefore to the company) - Schools' fear of the bureaucratic and organisational effort associated with applying for Erasmus+ funds ITKAM decided to apply as coordinator with 5 German schools with little experience in the Erasmus+ programme to provide their learners with the possibility of an internship abroad. These students will have the opportunity to acquire hard and soft skills abroad that will improve their employability in the labour market and have a positive impact on their companies upon their return.
