Health and well-being, active EU citizenship, European awareness and democracy as well as intercultural and intergenerational education including lifelong learning were chosen as central themes of the project. The occupation of occupational therapist is associated with the expectation of a high level of professional expertise, which is linked to other key competences. Social competence, communicative competence, self-competence in the sense of organising one's own work process and one's own (lifelong) learning process should be mentioned. The aim is to initiate the aforementioned competences as a contribution to achieving the ability to act in a professional context. In our view, working in the profession, at the same time as a citizen of a European country, brings with it the claim to shape society and also to shape citizenship within the EU. The mobilities in different countries enable a view beyond one's own horizon, help to look for an exchange with people from other nations and to form or also further develop a cultural competence. Such a capacity for reflection leads to intercultural, lifelong learning.
Stays abroad, which enable working in a different context, can lead to a broadly diversified increase in competence. Working in occupational therapy is a very responsible field of activity that is subject to constant further development. This further development is supported by international networking within the professional field. In addition, a changing world of work makes it necessary to consider an international perspective of the profession. In addition to a changing world of work, social changes are also becoming apparent. Offering young people the opportunity to get to know the European dimension already during their training and to find it again in the world of training and work can contribute to a stronger social cohesion and to standing up for the European idea and values. Ultimately, ETOS as a training institution is interested in continuously ensuring the quality of its training. The comparison with training in other European countries and taking up suggestions resulting from the exchange contributes to the quality assurance of the training at the ETOS Ergotherapieschule Osnabrück e.
