Intercultural/intergenerational education and (lifelong)learningRecognition (non-formal and informal learning/credits)Teaching and learning of foreign languages

Objectives

The main intention was to promote the international and professional competencies of young apprentices. This not only aimed to improve employability after their training by enhancing foreign language skills, but also, especially in today's world, to increase tolerance towards foreign cultures, improve self-confidence, train adaptability, and sharpen ability to handle conflicts. On the one hand, successful completion of an international internship was expected to enhance employability, while on the other, participants should be educated as tolerant and open-minded EU citizens. Mobility experiences for teaching staff were meant to serve the purpose of applying teaching content and foreign language competence in both language instruction and subject-specific vocational education through CLIL courses and occupation-related internships. Additionally, these mobilities were intended to improve intercultural competence considering the increasing international diversity of students. These mobilities were also expected to contribute to the school's European profile and increase the acceptance of international internships among training companies while highlighting their benefits by trainees sharing their experiences.

Background

As a European school, BBS Stadthagen aims to further strengthen its European profile, which is also defined by the school programme. As a cornerstone of the mission statement "Vocational Education with a European Perspective," this project should contribute to firmly embedding European content in vocational education and experiencing it in practice. Europe is defined as a development goal at BBS Stadthagen: "We are a school where vocational education and Europe are closely intertwined." As a strategy, in addition to expanding the school's European curriculum, there are initiatives aimed at promoting the European idea and enhancing the European job market prospects for the students. One of the resulting measures, among others, is to intensify contacts with European partners at the level of teachers, classes, and student groups. The school's professional development concept puts special emphasis on European topics, intercultural education, and languages. As a measure to enhance the future sustainability of BBS Stadthagen, the establishment of international cooperation projects has been decided.
