This project was carried out to achieve various objectives. The main goal, of course, is to enhance the language proficiency of the participants. Engaging in communication in a different language, in a foreign country, and without their families in the background naturally promotes independence and self-confidence. Since the students were accommodated with host families and completed internships at local businesses, intercultural competence is also fostered. By issuing certificates for their stay and internships, the students acquire international additional qualifications, which increase their chances of, for example, applying for in-company foreign opportunities. Furthermore, their vocational education is enriched with valuable skills. Additionally, the accompanying teachers also benefited linguistically from the stay. Moreover, the collaboration as a team before, during, and after the stay proved advantages for working together in other areas within the school.
As our understanding of school quality includes a strong commitment to internationalization, this project was made to prepare students for the demands of an increasingly globalized job market and to provide them with additional qualifications beyond the curriculum content. The companies of the trainees greatly appreciate the offer of an international, cultural and operational experience for their vocational training in English-speaking countries. This is also proved in the high number of applicants for our program. In addition, the accompanying teachers also gain valuable international experience, which they can then incorporate into their lessons. The visits to the internship companies in Malta, which ensure professional support, are particularly worth mentioning.
