The fundamental goal of our project was to understand the complex topic of "sustainability" for our work in adult education. The focus was on promoting our competencies and skills for sustainable action in an increasingly digitalized society. Through our project, we sought to learn about ecological, economic and social examples and models that inspire and support us in the field of action of sustainable educational work. The project also aimed at developing visions, sustainably redesigning our own teaching and learning spaces, and changing our understanding of teaching and learning.
The Volkshochschule Krempe is a volunteer-run and family-oriented association. It is increasingly facing the ecological, technical and social challenges of the present and the future. In times of climate change, the increasing pollution of the oceans, the social drifting apart of society, the rapid technical change, the Kremper Volkshochschule deals with the topic of "sustainability in adult education". In order for all people to have a fair chance of a good future in social, economic and ecological terms, we as an educational institution in the region would like to initiate a topic-related social discussion. In doing so, we are guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' Agenda 2030. We have deliberately brought the topic of digitization together with the topic of sustainability. This is because digital technologies can support and accelerate sustainable development in many areas (e.g., good education, healthcare, climate protection).
