The VHS had the goal of integrating the area of "digital education and educational offerings" as an important form of learning into the educational concept. For this, it was necessary to develop corresponding competencies and implement offerings. To expand the intercultural, methodological and digital competence of management and staff, various mobilities had to be implemented as well as digital skills of management and employees. These included further trainings in the area of intercultural education, dealing with resentment in intercultural groups and offers for a new pedagogical approach, especially for online and hybrid matters. The goal was to create joint offerings with other institutions that would be available to a broad audience, also in order to guarantee that additional target groups could be reached. By improving the didactic and methodological competence of teaching staff, the quality of teaching should be enhanced both in presence and online. Culturally sensitive interaction with participants in multicultural groups should be promoted in order to avoid intra-group conflicts as far as possible.
Digital literacy is essential for inclusion in today's and tomorrow's society. This was the starting point for our project. It is a known fact that the digital world is growing very fast and impacting all aspects of our lives. To keep up in this fast-changing world, we need to improve the digital skills of teachers, as they are the key people whose responsibility is to prepare people for life. A survey conducted by the European Commission in 2014 found that almost half of the EU population had insufficient digital skills, including almost a quarter who had no digital skills at all. We cannot afford to have a large part of the population lacking digital skills in such a competitive and changing world. A lot of attention needs to be paid to this, starting with teachers. Another reason for the project was the increasingly multicultural courses at the vhs and the resulting difficulties and misunderstandings due to resentment and cultural incomprehension.
