Background

Hamburg, as a city with a global harbour, has due to its history and location, the duty to fulfil a special task and works as a mediator in the spirit of peace between all parts and humans of the earth. Hamburg profits until today from the exchange with other countries, from trade and globalization. Globalization is not only a question of economy and border crossing commercial relations, but education has to open internationally as well to serve the requirements of the labour market. Internationalisation is firmly established in the programme and general principles of the vocational school for hotel, gastronomy and food trade (BS03). By offering international internships for apprentices and mobilities for educational staff, we want to encourage intercultural and social competences. espexially the international focus in the gastronomy forces everybody to an intercultural exchange. The acquaintance with different cultures and mentalities is part of hospitality in the hotel business, gastronomy and tourism. The job market for these graduates is international. As well für apprentices in food crafts, an open-mindness is necessary and a guarantee for success in the labour market.
