Objectives

The BGZ project is a contribution to strengthen the quality, attractiveness and future orientation of vocational education and training in Europe. The mobility project aimed to familiarise Berlin VET staff with good practices for dealing with innovations and digitalisation in initial and continuing education and training. In the exchange with actors from other EU countries, the participants learned about new approaches and methodological concepts, innovative learning models and materials as well as ideas for implementation. The focus was on supporting the training staff in expanding their digital knowledge to integrate new innovative learning methods (e.g. blended learning and immersive learning) into the classroom. In addition, it was shown where digitalisation is decisively changing the construction industry and the logistics sector, which enabled the training staff to familiarise themselves with the latest developments in their field.

Background

Digitalisation is currently one of the biggest challenges in education and training. It confronts individuals with specific requirements that go beyond pure technical knowledge. This concerns both the readiness to deal with technical innovations and personal skills such as flexibility, teamwork and communication skills. For example, the demand for employees with knowledge of new technologies and digital skills is increasing, especially in industry and (craft) businesses. This in turn requires an adaptation of the content in vocational education and training as well as the introduction of new methodology and didactics, but also improved teaching skills of teachers. In cooperation with our shareholders and partners, BGZ has identified special needs for action in the logistics and construction sectors based on these current developments. In both logistics and construction, digitalisation is rapidly changing internal and external processes and thus posing new challenges for VET staff.
