Objectives

We aimed to increase the interest of the students and thereby achieve improved learning success in the sense of "lifelong learning". The inclusion of disadvantaged students requires an individual adaptation of the learning process. Learning disabilities, mental illnesses and social difficulties could be overcome successfully and in a student-oriented manner through the use of new technologies and media. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers were able to track and control student learning in a variety of ways, enhancing student creativity and skills. Students learned how to use technology and media wisely to enhance their learning and be competitive in the workplace. The level of English teaching should remain high. Therefore, it was desirable for staff to expand and practice their language skills in terms of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and intonation. It was important to improve communication skills in the areas of listening, reading, speaking and translation. Therefore, teachers should receive further training in English-speaking countries in order to ensure a continuous language level in the sense of immersion. It was also important to us to improve and professionalize the way we deal with cultural, social and ethnic diversity. One goal was language-sensitive teaching that consciously uses language as a means of thinking and communicating in order to combine technical and linguistic learning. Through regular and intensive contact with partner schools in Europe, it is necessary for both students and teachers to gain experience in dealing with different perspectives and to overcome cultural barriers. This project gave us new impetus for overcoming our challenges.

Background

In order to successfully implement the new curriculum, which requires communicative, intercultural and methodological competencies, it was necessary for the teaching staff to learn new competency-oriented teaching methods. Dealing with new media, such as computer and network technology, as well as the use of authentic audio-visual material are indispensable components of modern teaching. There was still some catching up to do in our facility in this area. In particular, student-oriented, interactive and competence-oriented programs, apps and websites should be used to design modern and needs-oriented teaching. Our school should continue to maintain its European orientation and maintain intensive contacts with various European nations. Due to the high proportion of migrants, our school has a strong international character. English is often the only language that can be used to communicate with newly arriving students. It was therefore an important goal to expand and practice the language skills of the employees in terms of linguistic means, communicative skills in listening and visual comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and language mediation. Due to the increasing proportion of migrants at our school, many teachers are faced with the challenge of meeting the requirements of heterogeneity related to origin and performance.
