Participation in language courses abroad contributed to a greater variety of methods and a greater selection of foreign language media. Almost all participants were enthusiastic about the teachers at the language schools abroad and passed on to their colleagues creative and student-activating methods and materials that they had tried out themselves and found to be good. The change of perspective - teachers become learners - resulted in a reflection on one's own didactic approach and interaction with the class. The level of requirements, curricula and also the textbooks could be compared and from this Derive optimization options for your own teaching of the teaching material and the selection of content. Participation in language courses also offered a good opportunity to build up private contacts with colleagues from other European countries. In addition, due to the longer stay in the target country, not only was the language learned, but the colleagues also gained a good insight into the socio-economic conditions there and were able to form their own picture of the situation and people's opinions.
The focus of this project was on improving the quantitative and qualitative language skills of colleagues. On the one hand, they should have a wider range of languages and, on the other hand, they should also be able to improve the level of the foreign languages in which they already have knowledge. Some took part in the language courses in order to be able to participate in our international project work and to make contact more easily with friendly colleagues from our partner schools. Others expected that learning another foreign language would help them to better empathize with the situation of our students with a migrant background and make it easier for them to identify related linguistic or lexical structures. Some saw an increasing proportion of bilingual teaching content as an improved preparation of their students for an increasingly international professional world and global competition. Since we work with many medium-sized companies, this qualification is extremely desirable. Others see multilingualism as a fundamental characteristic of a European or would like to make their contribution to lifelong learning and sharpen their humanistic profile.
