Objectives

The main objective of our project was the consolidation and strengthening of digital competences within our teaching staff – and in consequence, the improvement of ICT skills in students by integrating the training results into the everyday lessons of various subjects. Furthermore, we intended to reduce the general fear of contact with ICT and wanted to increase motivation and willingness in teachers to use digital hard- and software and to test new ICT experiences in their own lessons. A third objective was the reinforcement of our school’s interculturality and focus on Europe and to establish new international cooperation between schools and countries.

Background

Shortly before our project, the city of Moers had started equipping our classrooms with digital hardware. At the same time, our school worked on the implementation of tutor groups making use of solely digital devices in their lessons. In consequence, both measures required the education of our staff in the field of ICT: Teachers had to consolidate their digital competences, get to know a variety of digital educational tools and practice their successful implementation into the lessons of various subjects. At the same time, we intended to further strengthen our profile as an acknowledged ‘European School’, a regional label awarded to schools with a specific focus on European issues, thus aiming at a successful recertification in the next call.
