Background

A very diverse student body - socially, culturally as well as religiously - dominates the pedagogical thinking and acting at the Stadtteilschule Horn and makes it particularly significant to take care of peaceful social interactions. Clearly defined rules and norms ensure a respectful contact between students as well as teachers and help the students to identify with their school. The effort of the staff is to take each student and his characteristics seriously and to ensure a friendly and peaceful learning atmosphere which leaves no space for violence and racism. We are a school for everybody and that diversity is our responsibility. The school development plan is to focus on individualized teaching methods in order to meet the needs of our diverse student body. We currently are working on the implementation of special concepts such as project based learning, learning in modules and teaching on an interdisciplinary basis. The objective of our project with the title “implementing innovative teaching methods” was to learn more about innovative curricula and new teaching methods in order to improve our teaching concepts. The goal is to support the professional development of the teachers, enhance their intercultural skills and improve their language competences. Furthermore, the expected impacts on the organization are improvements and/or adjustments to the latest teaching concepts described above. All activities offer the opportunity to establish new contacts to implement international relations for school projects, international encounters and/or exchange programs. All and all, potential long term benefits are the improvement of the quality of the language teaching department as well the implementation and enhancement of innovative teaching methods.
